Common parasites included roundworm, hookworm, tapeworm, giardia and coccidia. Parasites are released through an animal’s feces and eggs can live in the environment for months. Parasites are zoonotic – so it can be transmitted from pets to people.
Signs your pet may be infected include:
Acute or chronic diarrhea
Vomiting
Pot-belly look
Poor hair coat
Decreased appetite
Weight loss
Sometimes there are no symptoms, especially in the early stages. A fecal exam is done annually on pets to test for parasites. Make sure to bring a fresh fecal sample that is less that 24 hours old to your visit.
